Lights out for viral driver as LTO enforces 90-day suspension

A viral video showing a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) with flashing reverse lights has prompted the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to suspend the driver’s license for 90 days and place the vehicle under alarm.

LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) Chief Renante Melitante ordered the suspension through a show cause order (SCO) on Monday, October 6, against the driver of a Toyota Innova with plate number DPB 7501.

The driver must appear before the LTO Central Office in Quezon City on October 10 and bring the vehicle for inspection.

The agency directed the driver to explain why they should not face administrative charges for violating Section 34 (d) of Republic Act 4136, which governs “Accessories of Motor Vehicles,” and Section 27 (a) for being an “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.”

The LTO said that if the driver fails to appear or submit a notarized explanation, the office will treat it as a waiver of their right to be heard and decide the case based on existing evidence.

The video, uploaded by the Facebook page “Parkeserye,” captured the Toyota Innova with flashing reverse lights on a Makati City road, sparking public criticism over unsafe vehicle modification.*
