LTO orders explanation from van driver involved in Tayabas accident

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Calabarzon has formally requested an explanation from the driver of the van involved in a fatal accident on February 9.

LTO Calabarzon Regional Director Elmer Decena issued a Show Cause Order against the van driver and its registered owner.

Both parties were instructed to submit an official statement explaining why they should not be held administratively liable for the incident that claimed two lives.

According to police reports, the van was reportedly speeding when it reached Barangay Lakawan, colliding violently with a motorcycle carrying two women.

The impact caused the two passengers to die and left the motorcycle driver seriously injured, while the van driver initially attempted to flee the scene.

Authorities later apprehended the driver, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether the van may have been operating illegally or “kolorum”, which could explain the attempted escape.

LTO officials said the explanation submitted by the driver and owner will help determine administrative accountability and possible penalties under traffic regulations.

The office reminded the public that reckless driving endangers lives and that all motorists must comply with legal vehicle registration and road safety rules.

Investigators continue reviewing the case, while the families of the victims await justice following the tragic accident.
