LTFRB open to provisional fare hike if diesel reaches P60/liter

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is considering a provisional fare increase for buses, jeepneys, and other modes of public transportation.

This comes amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which is expected to significantly impact petroleum prices.

According to LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza, a fare adjustment may be implemented if diesel prices reach P60 per liter.

He clarified, however, that the proposed one-peso fare increase filed by jeepney operators is “not yet justified.”

Mendoza assured the public that the agency is closely monitoring developments related to tensions in the Middle East.

He added that the LTFRB is studying balanced measures that would protect commuters while ensuring the continued operation of public transportation services in the country.
