Tucked along Real Street in Poblacion, Albuera, Ligña is a delightful café that has quickly become a favorite among locals and curious foodies alike. With its minimalist industrial-chic interiors and carefully curated menu, it’s the kind of place where you can comfortably unwind—whether you’re dropping by for a quick coffee, a hearty rice meal, or a cozy dinner date. I’ve had the pleasure of dining here twice, and each visit left me with something new to love (and a few notes for improvement).

First Impressions: Post-Opening Vibes
My first visit to Ligña was with my boyfriend, just a few days after they opened their doors. Despite being fresh off their grand opening, the kitchen already seemed to be in full swing. I ordered the Seafood Pasta Negra (₱240) and was instantly impressed. The squid ink pasta had a deep, savory flavor that didn’t overpower the seafood. It was creamy, garlicky, and just the right balance of richness and umami. Without exaggeration, it became an instant favorite.
My boyfriend went for the Hickory Chicken (₱220)—juicy and glazed in that familiar sweet-smoky hickory sauce, served with a generous portion of rice and veggies. It was flavorful and filling. To go with it, we shared a plate of Mozzarella Fingers (₱220). They were perfectly golden on the outside, stretchy and satisfying on the inside—nothing overly fancy, but undeniably good.
We didn’t get drinks on this visit, as the food alone had us content. The only hitch was the service. While the waitstaff was polite and served us satisfactorily, they lacked warmth—perhaps because they were overwhelmed from the recent grand opening. Understandable, but something worth improving on as they settle in.

The Return Visit: More Friends, More Food
On my second visit, I went with a friend, Nonon, for a more casual late-night meal. This time around, the place felt more relaxed and the team seemed to be settling into their rhythm. Nonon ordered the Garlic Pork Tapa Rice Bowl (₱190) and finished it in no time—which says a lot. It was garlicky, tender, and came with perfectly cooked rice and egg. Meanwhile, I tried the Penne Al Ragu, a comforting tomato-based pasta with slow-cooked meat. The sauce was robust and satisfying, but I personally would’ve loved the use of beef shanks for that extra depth and maybe a heavier touch of cheese for added creaminess.
We also split an order of Truffle Fries (₱120)—crispy, golden, and not greasy at all. What made it even better were the sauces served on the side; they were flavorful, well-balanced, and added that extra flair to an already solid appetizer.
For drinks, Nonon chose the Iced PB Monster Coffee (₱170), which he described as creamy and nutty, like a dessert in a glass. I went for the Hot Dark Mocha (₱140). While it was decent, I personally prefer a more intense, bitter chocolate flavor to cut through the sweetness.

Ambiance: Instagram-Ready Comfort
Now let’s talk about the interiors—because Ligña clearly didn’t skimp on the ambiance. The space is a carefully designed mix of modern industrial aesthetics, featuring a warm palette of brown, black, and gray tones, cozy lighting, and clean lines. The lighting at night is especially gorgeous—it brings a soft glow to the space that makes it feel even more inviting and photogenic.
Whether you’re seated by the counter with a view of the baristas in action, or in one of the cozy corners framed with decorative wall art and dried flowers, there’s no bad seat in the house. It’s the kind of place where you can linger for hours—over food, conversation, or a good book. The photos I took speak for themselves—Ligña is truly Instagrammable without trying too hard.

A Work in Progress with Great Potential
Ligña may still be fine-tuning some parts of its service and menu, but it already has the foundations of a standout spot in Albuera. The food is flavorful and varied, the drinks are playful and well-prepared, and the ambiance is the cherry on top. With a few tweaks—perhaps warmer customer service and some refinement on a few dishes—it has the potential to become a true gem in Leyte’s growing café and dining scene.
Will I go back? Absolutely. Maybe next time, I’ll finally try their dessert offerings or another one of their rice bowls. But one thing’s for sure: that Seafood Pasta Negra is calling my name again soon.
