Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson said he hopes President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will take a tougher stance against corruption in 2026, following the president’s strong remarks during his State of the Nation Address.
Lacson said the president appeared to signal a firmer position against corruption when he publicly rebuked corrupt officials during the address, telling them to be ashamed. He expressed hope that the statement would translate into sustained action for the remainder of Marcos’ term.
According to Lacson, the coming year presents an opportunity for government leaders to strengthen accountability and reinforce anti-corruption efforts across agencies. He said it is important for those in power to show consistency between public statements and concrete action.
The senator added that the Senate will continue to play its role by remaining active in investigations and research related to alleged corruption cases in 2026. He said legislative oversight is necessary to ensure public funds are protected and government programs are properly implemented.
Lacson also emphasized the need for unity among national leaders in addressing corruption, saying the issue requires cooperation and political will at all levels of government.
He did not mention specific cases but reiterated that the fight against corruption should remain a priority as the country enters the new year.
