A moderate eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Thursday morning blanketed homes, roads and agricultural areas with ash in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, and nearby towns and cities.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the eruption occurred at 7 a.m. and lasted for about three minutes.
The volcano emitted a column of dark smoke and thick ash that rose between two and three kilometers above the crater.
PHIVOLCS said prevailing winds carried the ash eastward, potentially affecting Guihulngan City, Vallehermoso and other areas across Negros.
Ashfall was reported covering residential communities, roadways and farmlands following the eruption.
Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 2, indicating continued volcanic unrest.
Authorities continue to strictly enforce the prohibition against entering the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone surrounding the volcano.
Residents have also been advised to remain vigilant as volcanic activity continues.
Local authorities urged the public to wear face masks to reduce exposure to volcanic ash and to closely follow advisories issued by PHIVOLCS and local government units.
Officials said these precautionary measures are intended to minimize the risks posed by possible succeeding volcanic eruptions and related hazards.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the initial information released.
PHIVOLCS continues to monitor the volcano’s activity and provide updates as necessary.
Residents living near the volcano were reminded to comply with existing safety protocols while authorities maintain restrictions around the Permanent Danger Zone.
The latest eruption comes as monitoring of Kanlaon Volcano remains ongoing under Alert Level 2, with government agencies continuing to assess conditions and issue advisories based on volcanic activity.
Authorities urged the public to remain informed through official announcements and avoid restricted areas while monitoring continues.
