Impeachment vs. Marcos Jr. over Duterte case “walang pinanghuhugutan,” says Castro

Malacañang said there is no sufficient basis to impeach President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., following a complaint filed by allies of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

During a May 9 press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated: “Karapatan po nila kung nais po nilang magsampa pero inuulit po natin ang complaint po na ito, sa ating pagtingin, ay walang pinanghuhugutan.”

Castro clarified that the Marcos administration’s involvement in the reported arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte is part of the country’s obligation to the International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol.

The impeachment complaint was filed on May 8 by former National Youth Commission Chairperson Ronald Cardema and his wife, former Duterte Youth party-list Rep. Marie Cardema.

They cited culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust as grounds for the case, claiming the administration “surrendered” the former president to a foreign court.

The Palace emphasized that while individuals have the right to file complaints, the Marcos administration views the case as lacking legal merit.
