Hundreds flood Ormoc City Superdome for Labor Day job fair

On May 1, 2025, the Ormoc City Superdome became a hub of activity as hundreds of job seekers attended the Labor Day job fair organized by the local government and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Ormoc. The event attracted applicants from various towns including Palompon, Merida, Albuera, Mahaplag, San Isidro, Villaba, Baybay City, and Ormoc City itself.

Diverse Opportunities Across Industries

The job fair offered thousands of positions across multiple sectors. Companies were on the lookout for call center agents, engineers, drivers, sales agents, managers, nurses, and more. Notably, several private companies participated, including those seeking candidates for overseas employment.

PESO manager Josephine Hermosilla expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the variety of employers present. She noted that the inclusion of companies offering overseas positions provided additional opportunities for job seekers aiming to work abroad.

Regional Impact and Economic Growth

The job fair in Ormoc was part of a broader initiative across Eastern Visayas. According to reports, approximately 11,855 jobs were available in the region during the Labor Day celebrations. In Ormoc City alone, 568 positions were up for grabs, contributing to the region’s employment opportunities.
