Group urges DTI to monitor product pricing amid the ₱500 Noche Buena budget issue

Consumers Union of the Philippines President Atty. Rodel Taton said the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) ₱500 Noche Buena budget for a family of four is laughable.

In an interview, Taton stressed that what DTI claimed seems impossible, especially with the soaring prices of goods.

He explained that while Christmas is a season of love, gratitude, and is celebrated only once a year, ordinary Filipinos should still be given a decent and dignified consideration.

He added that a budget of ₱1,000 to ₱2,000 is more appropriate for a decent meal for a family of four.

Meanwhile, Taton also said that the DTI should take the lead in monitoring the prices of goods, especially those who may be taking advantage of the situation.

He believes producers and manufacturers can discuss and explore the possibility of reviewing and lowering prices, as well as offering special promotions.
