The group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) described the dismissal of the second impeachment complaint against President Bongbong Marcos as a “grave assault.”
In a statement, impeachment complainant and BAYAN Chairperson Teddy Casiño said the move was a grave assault on constitutional accountability and a clear weakening of the system of checks and balances between Congress and the Executive.
According to Casiño, by dismissing the impeachment complaints on the ground of “insufficiency in substance” without full and fair deliberation, the House effectively shielded the President from accountability.
He added that the dismissal is alarming as it allegedly disregards Congress’ own impeachment rules.
Casiño said that by undermining the impeachment process, Congress is denying Filipinos their right to know the truth.
He further noted that the move also deprives the public of the opportunity to hold a co-equal branch of government accountable.
Most concerning, according to Casiño, is that the protection was extended not only to the President but also to the lawmakers themselves.
He claimed that some members are beneficiaries, enablers, and “silent partners” in the multi-billion-peso flood control scandal cited in the impeachment complaint.
