A 76-year-old grandmother fell victim to a scam, losing ₱50,000 in cash and jewelry to alleged con artists near a supermarket in Kalibo, Aklan.
According to the police report, the victim, a resident of Barangay Estancia, was approached by a suspect claiming to be an acquaintance of her child. Gaining her trust, the suspect convinced the grandmother to exit the supermarket without making her purchases, luring her to a vehicle outside.
Inside the car, the scammers reportedly persuaded her into a “transaction,” during which they managed to swindle her out of the substantial amount and jewelry. The victim later filed a complaint with the Kalibo Municipal Police Station.
However, the investigation hit a roadblock as the victim’s statements reportedly changed multiple times. Frustrated and uncertain, her family decided to pause the inquiry, citing the need for clarity and emotional recovery.
