A 24-year-old woman from Barangay South Poblacion, Naga City, Cebu was fatally stabbed by her former live-in partner after a heated argument near their residence.
The victim, identified as Rosemarie Pasaporte, was attacked by 32-year-old Mario Gabayan as they returned home from a Christmas party for their child. The two had reportedly separated months prior but reunited temporarily to attend the event.
According to the City of Naga Police, the argument escalated after Rosemarie allegedly refused Mario’s plea to allow him custody of their child. The confrontation turned physical, leading Mario to stab Rosemarie. In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, Mario claimed he brought the knife intending to confront Rosemarie’s new partner but ended up attacking her instead.
Rosemarie was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Mario fled the scene but was later arrested in Barangay Biasong, Balamban.
Authorities are preparing charges against Mario, who remains in custody. The tragic incident has sparked calls for stronger measures to address domestic violence and provide protection for women in similar situations.
