Local authorities in Camarines Sur began enforcing forced evacuations early Wednesday as Typhoon Pepito looms, bringing the threat of destructive winds and torrential rains to the region.
Governor Luigi Villafuerte ordered the evacuation of residents from high-risk areas, particularly those prone to flooding and storm surges. The Partido District is among the areas ramping up preparations, with residents securing their homes by adding weights to rooftops and reinforcing windows with plywood and tarpaulins.
Coastal communities have also started moving fishing boats to safer locations to avoid damage from potential storm surges.
The Camarines Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) deployed responders, including health clusters, to assist in the evacuation and preparation efforts. Meanwhile, Coast Guard Camaligan is on standby with personnel and floating assets ready to respond to emergencies.
Adding to the urgency, some evacuation centers remain unusable due to flooding caused by the recent Typhoon Kristine, prompting local disaster offices to identify alternative safe zones.
