Flash flood paralyzes Maasim Highway

A powerful flash flood struck the national highway in Maasim, Sarangani Province on Monday afternoon, October 6, 2025, disrupting transportation.

At around 3:00 PM, raging floodwaters carrying mud and scattered logs rushed through the highway, blocking vehicles and stranding motorists.

Authorities responded quickly as disaster personnel deployed to clear the area, manage traffic, and assist residents affected by the flooding.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the flooding affected four barangays and at least one hundred families.

The MDRRMO reported that more than twenty houses were damaged or submerged, forcing residents to evacuate and seek immediate shelter.

Additionally, four individuals sustained injuries, while one person unfortunately suffered electrocution during the flash flood’s sudden and powerful onslaught.

Rescue teams conducted immediate search and relief operations, ensuring that injured residents received proper medical care and necessary assistance without delay.

By around nine in the evening, authorities successfully reopened the national highway to vehicles after clearing debris and ensuring road safety.

PAGASA explained that the Intertropical Convergence Zone continues to affect Mindanao, producing persistent rains that triggered the flash flood.

Local officials urged residents to remain alert for possible heavy rains, coordinate with authorities, and follow early evacuation warnings when necessary.
