Fishermen from Bataan turned over 10 sacks of suspected shabu worth approximately ₱1.5 billion after finding them floating in the waters off the western coast of Masinloc, Zambales on May 29.
Upon returning from their fishing trip, the fishermen immediately brought the sacks to the Philippine Coast Guard and informed local authorities. The Bataan Provincial Police Office (PPO), led by Col. Marites Salvadora, confirmed that the illegal drugs were quickly reported and secured.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) acknowledged the fishermen’s action and expressed appreciation for their cooperation. The agency has since ordered a deeper investigation to determine the origin of the drugs and whether the incident is linked to a larger smuggling operation.
Authorities have not yet identified any suspects or vessels involved. The PDEA and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are currently working together to trace where the drugs came from and who may be responsible.
Officials said that the vigilance of local communities, especially those working at sea, plays a vital role in intercepting drug trafficking activities. The discovery adds to a growing number of maritime drug recoveries in the region, indicating that Philippine waters continue to be targeted as drop-off points by drug syndicates.
The case remains under investigation, and more updates are expected in the coming days.
