A residential house in Barangay Curuan, Zamboanga City was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning, alarming nearby residents. The fire broke out around 1:10 a.m. at Sitio Basagan, quickly engulfing the light residential structure.
Residents awoke to smoke and flames as the fire spread rapidly through the house. The property belonged to Ms. Erlinda Mariano, according to an initial report from the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Firefighters from the Zamboanga City Fire District responded immediately after receiving the alarm.
Two BFP fire trucks rushed to the scene to control the blaze. Firefighters managed to put out the fire by 1:17 a.m., preventing further damage to nearby homes.
Authorities reported no injuries or casualties during the incident. However, the fire completely damaged one residential structure, leaving one family affected.
Initial estimates placed the property damage at ten thousand pesos or less. The Bureau of Fire Protection said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Investigators continue to examine the scene to determine what triggered the blaze. Photos released by BFP showed charred debris, twisted metal sheets, and lingering smoke.
Authorities cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and preserve evidence. Fire officials reminded residents to practice fire safety, especially during late-night hours.
They urged homeowners to check electrical connections and avoid fire hazards inside their houses.
