Filipino crew safe after vessels attacked near Strait of Hormuz

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that Filipino crew members aboard two vessels attacked in the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz are safe.

According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, three vessels were reportedly struck by projectiles or unidentified objects in the past 48 hours.

Of the three vessels, only two had Filipino crew members on board.

Cacdac said one vessel had 21 Filipino crew members, while the other had 17 Filipinos.

All of them are safe and are currently being transferred to a safer port.

The third vessel, he added, is a Thai-flagged ship and had no Filipino crew on board.

Meanwhile, the DMW continues to monitor the situation of Filipino seafarers in the Middle East region amid rising tensions.

Cacdac also urged shipowners and manning agencies to protect Filipino seafarers and respect their right to refuse deployment to dangerous areas.
