Ex-Gov. Singson Shrugs Off Plunder Case Filed Against Him

Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson said he is willing to go to jail if the allegations against him are proven true.

This comes after a plunder and graft complaint was filed against him and several others.

In the three-page complaint, Singson, former Vice Mayor Pablito Sanidad Sr., and 11 other former officials of Narvacan were accused of involvement in the purchase of nearly 10 hectares of allegedly overpriced land owned by Western Textile Mills, Inc.

According to the complainant, Atty. Estelita Cordero, the officials allegedly gained around ₱100 million from the transaction.

The property was reportedly bought for ₱149,961,000, far higher than its actual value of ₱49,987,000.

In an interview, Singson said records would show that the land was not worth ₱50 billion, as alleged.

He insisted that the municipality actually profited from the deal, while he himself incurred losses.

Singson stressed that the accusations were baseless, and that he plans to file a disbarment case against the lawyer who filed the complaint, saying that a lawyer is prohibited from lying.
