Senate President Chiz Escudero said he will not be swayed by protests outside the Senate as he refused to act on a circulating resolution that allegedly seeks to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Escudero emphasized that the Senate has not yet received an official copy of the resolution. Without the document, he said, there is no reason to begin any discussion on the matter.
He also said he is against holding an all-senator caucus on the issue. According to him, such meetings held behind closed doors could give the impression that they are avoiding public scrutiny.
The Senate President stressed that decisions regarding the impeachment case will be based on legal precedent and not on outside pressure. He made it clear that rallies or public opinion from either side will not influence the Senate’s actions.
His remarks come amid growing tension and political debate surrounding the impeachment proceedings involving the vice president.
