DSWD meets TNCs for assistance rollout

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to ensure aid for all sectors of the transport industry amid the ongoing fuel situation in the country.

According to the agency, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian met with representatives of transport network companies (TNCs) today to finalize the schedule for the rollout of individual special cash relief assistance payouts next week.

Gatchalian directed the companies to submit their proposed final payout plans by tomorrow to streamline the distribution of aid.

Meanwhile, Giovanni Lopez earlier pointed to TNCs, along with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), over the reportedly bloated list of beneficiaries amid the energy crisis.

During a recent Senate committee hearing, Lopez said the number of transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers who availed of the one-time DSWD cash assistance exceeded the 78,000 cap authorized by the government.

He added that TNCs, as well as the DOTr and LTFRB, should be held accountable over the issue.
