Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate repair of damaged roads and bridges across the Philippines ahead of the approaching rainy season.
Dizon directed officials to prioritize the urgent rehabilitation of infrastructure projects that have shown repeated damage and poor workmanship, warning that these conditions could pose risks and inconvenience to residents and motorists.
Among the projects being fast-tracked are the Apalit Section of MacArthur Highway, the Apalit-Macabebe Road in Pampanga, and the San Agustin Bridge in Arayat, Pampanga.
Dizon said the current state of several roads and bridges reflects improper construction or poor-quality work, resulting in recurring problems that require repeated repairs.
Because of the potential danger and disruption these damaged structures may cause, the secretary ordered that the identified projects be addressed immediately.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has been instructed to accelerate repair efforts nationwide to ensure roads and bridges are safer and more reliable before heavy rains arrive.
Officials said the rainy season often worsens existing damage in key transport routes, increasing hazards for commuters and motorists who rely on these roads daily.
Dizon earlier assured the public that the agency would focus this year on repairing deteriorating roads and bridges throughout the country.
The directive comes as the DPWH continues its broader push to improve infrastructure safety and reduce the repeated deterioration of public works projects.
No specific completion timelines were provided, but the agency said the repairs are being prioritized due to the possible risks and inconvenience that damaged infrastructure can bring, particularly during the rainy months.
The DPWH has not released further details on additional projects included in the nationwide repair order, but officials reiterated that improving road and bridge conditions remains a key focus for the year.
