DOST eyes expanded use of hydrogen as alternative energy source

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is promoting the use of hydrogen as an alternative energy source amid the ongoing oil crisis.

In an interview, DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said hydrogen fuel has strong potential as a source of energy, particularly through the production of hydrogen gas.

In line with this, the agency is already assisting in the study of areas with potential natural hydrogen deposits.

The DOST has also partnered with the Department of Energy (DOE) to establish a laboratory aimed at developing hydrogen batteries that could efficiently supply power for vehicles.

Aside from this, the agency is also in the process of developing various types of electric vehicles, including e-trams and e-trikes.
