Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered Juby Cordon, director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Davao region, to submit a complete report on the status of the controversial Tuganay Bridge in Carmen, Davao del Norte.
The directive came during a press conference where reporters pressed Dizon about the unfinished bridge, which has drawn heavy criticism for its prolonged delays. Dizon said he also plans to personally visit the site to assess progress on the project.
The Tuganay Bridge has become the subject of public ridicule, particularly on social media, where it has been labeled the “longest bridge” — not for its size, but for the time it has taken to complete. Netizens have turned the project into a meme, citing years of stalled construction.
Motorists and commuters have borne the brunt of the delays, with traffic disruptions and extended travel times in the area. Residents say the unfinished project has caused significant inconvenience to daily transportation.
Prior to Dizon’s planned visit, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure uncovered a separate ghost project worth ₱96 million in Davao Occidental.
