DILG orders LGUs in Cebu and Mindanao to lead building inspections after earthquake

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed all local government units (LGUs) to immediately conduct inspections of affected buildings, infrastructure, and homes in Cebu and Mindanao following the recent earthquake.

In its advisory, the DILG emphasized the need for rapid structural assessments to be led by Building Officials, Municipal and City Engineers, and other technical personnel.

Local governments have also been instructed to check buildings that have tilted or sustained severe damage.

According to the DILG, urgent safety actions are required for establishments declared unsafe, such as the prompt evacuation and relocation of affected families to temporary shelters.

In addition, the agency reminded LGUs to fast-track the processing of permits for the repair and reconstruction of structures damaged by the quake.
