The Department of Education (DepEd) is strengthening its education response efforts amid disasters.
The agency has launched the Learning Institution Geohazard Tracking and Assessment for Safety, or Project LIGTAS+, which aims to help schools prepare for disasters and prevent major class disruptions.
According to DepEd, the platform was developed to assist schools and local education officials in making quick and informed decisions before and during calamities.
The project is also designed to monitor the impact of disasters on academic performance and learning continuity.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the initiative aims to protect students and families from interruptions in learning caused by disasters.
He stressed that education is the most “reliable ladder” out of poverty, adding that this ladder should not be broken when disasters strike.
Project LIGTAS+ is currently under pilot implementation.
