Cousin surrenders after shooting man dead on hammock

A gunman shot and killed a man sleeping on a hammock along the shoreline of Purok 2, Barangay Kinudalan, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, on February 24, 2026.

Police said the attack happened around 6:50 in the morning while the victim rested alone beside the sea.

Authorities received a report at about 7:40 a.m. and immediately dispatched responding officers to secure the crime scene.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Randy M. Eliarda led the team in conducting hot pursuit operations and a thorough investigation.

Barangay officials later turned over the suspect, Montasir Dido Usman, also known as “Mons,” after he voluntarily surrendered.

Usman, thirty one, resides in Barangay Kidayan, Palimbang, and reportedly admitted his involvement before facing investigators.

Investigators identified the victim as Muslimen Mamantal, a resident of Barangay San Roque, Palimbang, who died from gunshot wounds.

Crime scene operatives recovered twenty six empty shells from a 5.56 caliber firearm scattered near the hammock.

Police are preparing a murder charge against the suspect as prosecutors evaluate evidence and witness statements.

Investigators are looking into personal conflict as the possible motive behind the fatal shooting incident.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect and the victim were cousins, adding a tragic dimension to the crime.
