College student killed in Cebu after ex-boyfriend allegedly stabbed her while trying to reconcile

A 21-year-old college student was allegedly stabbed to death by her former boyfriend inside her boarding house in Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga, Cebu, on Saturday morning.

The victim, identified only as Jane, was a third-year college student and a resident of Dalaguete, Cebu. The suspect, identified only as John, is also a college student.

According to the victim’s family, the couple ended their four-year relationship about a month ago.

Family members said Jane had repeatedly asked the suspect to stop frequently drinking alcohol with his friends. They said she decided to end the relationship after he failed to change.

Jane’s sister, Issa, told Brigada News FM Cebu that the suspect had repeatedly visited the boarding house in an attempt to reconcile with the victim.

She said she never expected the situation to turn violent after the suspect allegedly locked the room before the stabbing.

Authorities said the suspect also sustained injuries to his neck and chest after allegedly attempting to take his own life following the incident.

He is currently under hospital arrest.

The victim’s family said they are determined to file criminal charges against the suspect.

Jane’s mother, identified only as Jen, said the suspect had been close to their family, making the incident even more difficult to accept.

She said she and her husband worked hard on their farm to support the education of their children, including Jane.

Jen also recalled that July 31, a day after Jane celebrated her birthday, turned out to be the last time she saw her eldest daughter.

Police continue to investigate the fatal stabbing.
