A woman seeking shelter from severe tropical storm Opong lost her life when a coconut tree fell on a house in Barangay Malajog, Tinambacan District, Calbayog City in Samar, early Friday morning, September 26.
The Calbayog City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Rescue Team reported that the incident happened at around 3 am while the victim, identified as “Vilma,” was staying in her cousin’s live-in partner’s home after evacuating on Thursday evening for safety.
Authorities said the tree collapsed onto the house while its occupants were asleep, striking Vilma.
Police, in coordination with the City Health Office, will conduct a post-mortem examination as part of their ongoing investigation.
