Cebu cop seeking promotion tests positive for drugs

A police officer from the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office in Cebu tested positive for illegal drugs during a mandatory screening tied to his promotion application. The test was conducted on October 21 as part of the standard requirements for personnel seeking advancement in rank.

Police Captain Edcel Petecio, the office’s information officer, confirmed the result in an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu. He said the officer had applied for the position of police staff sergeant.

According to Petecio, the officer did not contest the outcome of the screening. Instead, he admitted to using illegal drugs, which strengthened the basis for possible administrative action. Authorities noted that disciplinary proceedings may move forward unless the officer requests a confirmatory test to challenge the initial findings.
