The city of Cagayan de Oro is currently under PAGASA Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) brings gusty winds and rainfall across northern Mindanao.
Authorities have suspended classes and non-essential work in public and private sectors while disaster response teams remain on full alert for possible flooding, landslides, and power disruptions in vulnerable barangays.
Earlier, PAGASA hoisted Wind Signal No. 2 in 11 areas including provinces of Cebu, Guimaras, Iloilo, Leyte, Masbate, Misamis Oriental, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and other Visayas-Mindanao areas facing sustained winds of 62 to 88 kph in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, areas under Signal No. 3 or higher have yet to be confirmed in the most recent bulletin.
In the coming hours, local government units in all affected provinces will intensify preparations including full activation of evacuation centres and relocation of coastal-community residents as storm surge risk remains high along exposed shorelines.
PAGASA warns that Tino may reach typhoon category within 24 hours and that sea travel is highly risky — residents and mariners alike are urged to stay indoors and monitor updates until the system exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
