The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has expressed full support for the evidence-gathering efforts and planned filing of cases by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla against individuals involved in corruption.
This came after Remulla said in an interview that the BFP is the most corrupt among agencies under the DILG.
Among the allegations is the supposed collection of more than ₱15 billion annually by the BFP.
Remulla also said during a Palace Press Briefing that BFP personnel allegedly receive kickbacks in the procurement of equipment.
He added that several personnel are already under investigation in connection with these allegations.
In a statement, the BFP said it views Remulla’s remarks as a “direct order” to confront the harsh realities within the organization.
The bureau said the secretary’s statements were not merely about numbers, but pointed to a betrayal of public trust and the misuse of taxpayers’ money.
The BFP assured the public that actions such as administrative relief, the suspension of inspections, and organizational reforms are already being implemented to dismantle the system that allowed corruption to take place.
The bureau added that cleansing the BFP is a challenging but necessary step to preserve the integrity and honor of its ranks.
