Basketball coach in Quezon, arrested for molesting teen player 

A 45-year-old basketball coach in Atimonan, Quezon, is now in police custody after allegedly molesting a 15-year-old boy. According to Acting Chief of Police PMaj. Marnie Abellanida of the Atimonan Municipal Police Station (MPS), the suspect, a member of the LGBTQIA community, had reportedly encouraged the victim to join a basketball team he organized.

The incident occurred when the victim visited the suspect’s house to submit required documents for the team. It was there that the alleged molestation took place. The victim immediately sought help from the Atimonan MPS, prompting a follow-up operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.

The suspect is now facing charges under Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act. Authorities are also providing psychological and other interventions to support the victim.

PMaj. Abellanida urged parents to closely monitor their children’s involvement in groups or activities, emphasizing the importance of vigilance to prevent similar incidents. The case has sparked concerns in the community, highlighting the need for stronger safeguards for minors.

The Atimonan MPS continues to investigate the case as the suspect remains in custody.
