A barangay official was killed, while another man lost both legs, after a vintage bomb exploded in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya.
Authorities said the explosion happened when the victims attempted to open the old bomb, which they found at a construction site linked to the barangay official. Instead of reporting it to authorities, they brought it to their bunkhouse and tried to saw it open.
The deadly blast instantly killed the barangay official, while his companion suffered severe injuries, including the loss of both legs. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Provincial Explosives and Canine Unit (PECU) is now examining bomb fragments to determine its type and origin. Officials have urged the public to immediately report the discovery of old or suspicious explosives to avoid similar tragedies.
