Cop extorts money, demands sex from inmate’s wife in GenSan

A Police Staff Sergeant assigned to General Santos City (Gensan) has been arrested in an entrapment operation for allegedly extorting money and demanding sex from the wife of an inmate detained at Tambler Police Station. The suspect promised to help secure the release of the woman’s husband, who was jailed for illegal drugs, in exchange for cash and sexual favors.

According to the victim, alias Shane, the officer initially demanded ₱20,000. She gave ₱4,000 on January 20, 2025, followed by ₱3,000 on January 26, and another ₱3,000 on February 1. However, after realizing the officer’s promises were empty, she reported the extortion to authorities.

In addition to the money, the suspect allegedly demanded sex as part of the deal. Tambler Police Station Chief, PMAj. Wesley Matillano, stated that the accused officer cited financial difficulties as his reason for the extortion.

During the entrapment operation on February 11, 2025, authorities recovered ₱3,000 from the suspect. Criminal charges are now being prepared against the officer, marking another scandal in the Philippine police force.

This incident has raised serious concerns about corruption and abuse of power within law enforcement, prompting calls for stricter accountability measures.
