Vice President Sara Duterte was merely joking when she made the “jailbreak” remark in connection with the possible detention of former President Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
It will be recalled that such controversial statements from the Vice President were among the reasons the ICC rejected the request for the former president’s interim release.
In a statement, Duterte’s legal counsel, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman, said anyone who heard VP Sara’s comments about a jailbreak would know she was only joking.
Kaufman also continues to request prayers from the former president’s supporters for his immediate release and return to the Philippines. He also said he is waiting for an invitation from the current administration to negotiate Duterte’s repatriation.
Meanwhile, when asked about the matter, VP Sara stressed that she will not speak to President Bongbong Marcos to secure her father’s return.
