Senator Chiz Escudero has not yet been cleared in the controversy involving his acceptance of a campaign fund donation.
This was confirmed by Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairperson George Erwin Garcia after Escudero’s camp submitted an explanation regarding the donation.
According to Garcia, Escudero is not yet in the clear at this time.
He said this is why both the senator and the contractor involved in the issue were asked to explain.
It will be recalled that Escudero maintained he only received ₱30 million in donations for his 2022 senatorial campaign from Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Inc.
Escudero believed the money came from a “private fund.”
