As millions visit cemeteries, DOE works to keep power and fuel steady

The Department of Energy (DOE) placed the power and fuel sectors on high alert ahead of Undas, directing them to ensure uninterrupted electricity and stable fuel supply during the nationwide holiday on November 1 and 2.

The DOE said on Wednesday, October 29, that it has tightened coordination with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), generation companies, and distribution utilities to prevent outages and manage the expected surge in power demand.

It deployed technical teams to monitor grid performance and respond immediately to any localized disruption. The department also activated contingency measures to sustain steady electricity as millions visit cemeteries and travel across the country.

The DOE ordered petroleum retailers to maintain sufficient fuel inventories along major routes and to uphold fair pricing. It said monitoring teams will stay on standby to guard against sudden price hikes and supply shortages.

Electric vehicle users can access 1,223 charging stations nationwide — 706 in Metro Manila, 268 in North and South Luzon, 221 in the Visayas, and 28 in Mindanao — to support long-distance travel during the observance.

By mobilizing the energy network early, the DOE aims to keep homes, cemeteries, and highways well-lit and running smoothly as Filipinos pay tribute to their departed loved ones.*
