Around 80 flights cancelled after airlines conduct software updates

Airbus issued an advisory directing its aircraft to undergo a software upgrade.

In an advisory earlier this morning, airport operator New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. said that while normal operations will continue, mandatory safety checks may lead to revised flight schedules, delays, and aircraft changes.

Transport Secretary Giovanni Lopez explained that the software update from Airbus and the European Aviation Safety Agency is a precautionary measure to ensure that all affected aircraft are airworthy.

He emphasized that the safety of every passenger remains their top priority.

At Cebu Pacific, 19 out of its 45 affected aircraft have received the software update; 11 out of 28 aircraft at PAL have completed the update; while the lone affected aircraft of AirAsia has also been updated and cleared to fly.

According to the airlines, despite cancellations and delays, rebooking and refunds for affected flights were ensured.
