Several individuals arrested in connection with Tai Po fire in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s anti-graft body reported that it has arrested eight individuals linked to the massive fire that struck a high-rise apartment complex in Tai Po.

The tragic incident has already claimed the lives of at least 128 people.

Following the blaze, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) launched a task force to investigate possible corruption related to the complex’s renovation project. This comes after three individuals were arrested on Thursday.

According to Edwina Antonio, executive director of Bethune House, a migrant women’s refuge association, many domestic workers from the Philippines were among those affected, with 19 still missing.

Authorities have concluded rescue operations but emphasized that the death toll may still rise.
