Lawmakers in the House of Representatives believe Filipinos are growing impatient over the continued delay of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial in the Senate.
House Assistant Majority Leader Jude Acidre made the statement following the move by religious leaders to launch a signature drive, aiming to collect one million signatures monthly for the People’s Impeachment Movement.
Acidre emphasized that the Senate has a constitutional duty to immediately begin the impeachment proceedings against Duterte. He warned that avoiding the trial or drowning it in technicalities would only fuel public frustration.
He cautioned that more protest actions from various groups could arise if the trial does not commence soon.
The lawmaker also stressed that this would not be the last call for accountability, especially during an election season when ordinary Filipinos are actively seeking answers from government officials.
Meanwhile, Assistant Majority Leader Pammy Zamora echoed Acidre’s concerns, stating that many people are already questioning the status of the impeachment case.
