BAYAN prepares a ‘hot’ welcome for Trump ahead of his expected Philippine visit

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) is preparing a series of protest activities ahead of United States President Donald Trump’s expected visit to the Philippines for the 49th ASEAN Summit.

In an interview with Brigada NewsFM Manila, BAYAN Secretary General Mong Palatino said the group is ready to give Trump a “hot” welcome through a series of demonstrations opposing the policies and actions of his administration.

The group is organizing a 12-day protest campaign featuring various activities, including forums, assemblies, cultural exhibits, and street demonstrations.

Palatino said the protests will highlight several issues, including Trump’s alleged role in ongoing wars, the impact of the Iran conflict on rising commodity prices, the Pax Silica initiative, and the expanding presence of the US military in the Philippines.

As a symbol of their opposition, BAYAN has also prepared an effigy of Trump called “Trumpocalypse,” which the group plans to burn during one of its protest actions.

The group has begun mobilizing supporters and calling on the public to take part in the activities to ensure that its message is heard even before Trump’s arrival.
