The Philippines returned to the podium in archery as Amaya Cojuangco won the silver medal in the women’s compound individual event at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Cojuangco fell to Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian Ashrifah, 139-137, in the final after Ashrifah hit a 10 with her final arrow.
Before reaching the final, Cojuangco defeated South Korea’s Park Jungyoon, 142-141, in the semifinals and Iran’s Bita Asheghzadeh Oskouei, 146-135, in the quarterfinals.
Her silver medal ended the Philippines’ 12-year medal drought in archery.
The country’s last archery medal came at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, where Paul Dela Cruz won bronze in the men’s individual compound event.
Cojuangco’s silver also brought the Philippines’ silver-medal tally at the ongoing Asian Games to four.
