Filipina tennis star Alex Eala made a strong start to her 2026 Asian Games campaign, cruising past Thailand’s Patcharin Cheapchandej, 6-1, 6-0, in the women’s singles Round of 16.
Eala controlled the match from the opening set, dictating the pace and limiting her Thai opponent to just one game in the first set before completing a straight-set victory.
Her match was initially delayed due to persistent rain, prompting tournament officials to transfer the contest from Centre Court to Indoor Court C.
The victory marks Eala’s first win in this year’s Asian Games campaign as she looks to make a deep run in the women’s singles event for Team Philippines.
Eala previously earned bronze medals in women’s singles and mixed doubles at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
