The NLEX Road Warriors need just one more win to advance to the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals after defeating the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 124-117, in Game 2 of their quarterfinals series at the Ynares Center.
Schonny Winston and Robert Bolick led NLEX’s offensive charge with 31 points apiece, powering the Road Warriors to their second straight win in the series.
The game remained closely contested through the third quarter, with neither team able to establish a double-digit lead.
However, NLEX delivered a crucial 9-0 run in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter to maintain its advantage and seal the victory.
Winston was named Player of the Game after recording a career-high 31 points.
Despite the impressive scoring output of Winston and Bolick, NLEX head coach Jimmy Alapag credited the team’s solid defense and in-game adjustments for the win.
For Phoenix, import Marcellus Earlington led the scoring with 22 points, while Ricci Rivero and Kai Ballungay contributed 21 points each.
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
