Sen. Loren Legarda and her son, Rep. Leandro Leviste, are not hiding, according to their spokesperson, lawyer Tony La Viña.
La Viña said the senator and her son’s decision to travel abroad should not be considered a “sign of guilt.”
According to the lawyer, the current location of Legarda and Leviste can be found in their counter-affidavits. He maintained that the documents show where the two are currently located.
La Viña also repeatedly denied allegations that Legarda and Leviste took or pocketed government money. He said that because no government funds were taken by the two, there was no plunder.
The spokesperson further maintained that Sen. Legarda had no role in any of her son’s businesses.
La Viña’s statements came as questions were raised over the overseas travel of Legarda and Leviste and allegations involving government funds.
He maintained that traveling outside the country does not by itself establish guilt and rejected the claim that the senator and her son were attempting to hide.
La Viña reiterated that neither Legarda nor Leviste took government money and that Legarda was not involved in her son’s business activities.
The lawyer’s statements focused on denying the allegations and clarifying the senator’s relationship to her son’s businesses.
