The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Port of Cebu seized two containers carrying 78,720 regulated medical devices that had been declared as “water purifier tube and bag.”
According to information posted by the BOC Port of Cebu on its Facebook page on Sept. 17, the shipment was discovered during a 100% physical examination.
The seized items included 24,000 peritoneal dialysis drainage bags, 43,200 sterile IV infusion sets and 11,520 hemodialysis blood tubing sets. The shipment was estimated to be worth more than ₱1 million.
The BOC said the actual contents did not match the goods declared in the shipment documents.
The agency also confirmed that the items are regulated medical devices that must comply with requirements set by the Food and Drug Administration.
Following the examination and evaluation of the shipment, District Collector Atty. Zsae Carrie C. De Guzman issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention on Aug. 24, 2026.
The warrant was issued over alleged violations of provisions of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and FDA regulations.
The shipment remains under BOC custody while seizure and forfeiture proceedings are being conducted.
The agency did not provide further details on the importer or the individuals responsible for the shipment.
