A multicab carrying seven people fell into an estimated 20- to 25-meter-deep ravine in Barangay Sacsac, Dalaguete, Cebu, on Sept. 9 after reportedly losing its brakes while traveling downhill.
According to a police report, the vehicle was carrying the driver and six passengers when the incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
The group had reportedly come from Barangay Patong in Badian, Cebu, and was heading home to Sogod when the accident happened.
Witnesses said the multicab was allegedly traveling at a high speed while descending the road and failed to maneuver to the right upon reaching a curved portion of the roadway.
The driver, however, told authorities that the vehicle lost its brakes, causing him to lose control and plunge into the ravine.
The driver and all six passengers sustained minor injuries and were immediately brought to a hospital for medical treatment.
The accident occurred along a downhill road section in Barangay Sacsac. Police documented the incident, with the reported brake failure cited by the driver as the cause of the crash, while witnesses pointed to the vehicle’s speed and difficulty navigating the curve.
