Former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez will face the allegations against him in accordance with the law following the filing of a plunder case by the Office of the Ombudsman before the Sandiganbayan, according to his camp.
Romualdez’s lawyer, Atty. Ade Fajardo, said the former speaker respects the court and legal process and will not seek special treatment.
Fajardo said Romualdez is asking only for the same due process and fair hearing guaranteed to every Filipino.
The lawyer also acknowledged the significant public interest surrounding the case but emphasized that Romualdez’s criminal liability should be determined based on the evidence presented before the court and in accordance with the rules of the justice system.
“Katotohanan, ebidensya, at patas na proseso ang dapat manaig,” Fajardo said.
Romualdez’s camp maintained that he would follow the legal process and face the allegations through the appropriate court proceedings.
Fajardo reiterated that any criminal liability should be determined based on the evidence presented in court.
The statement comes as the plunder case proceeds before the Sandiganbayan, with Romualdez’s camp emphasizing respect for the court, due process and a fair hearing.
