Double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his younger brother, Karl Eldrew Yulo, will headline the Philippine gymnastics team in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
Carlos is seeking to complete his collection of major international titles with an Asian Games gold medal.
Despite winning two Olympic golds, three World Championship titles, 12 Asian Championship golds, and nine Southeast Asian Games golds, Yulo has yet to win an Asian Games medal.
The 26-year-old gymnast made his Asian Games debut in Jakarta in 2018, where he finished seventh in the floor exercise.
He skipped the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games because the event coincided with the World Gymnastics Championships, which was an important Olympic qualification tournament.
Meanwhile, Karl Eldrew will make his Asian Games debut after making a strong impression at the 2026 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in China.
He won bronze in the floor exercise behind Carlos, who took gold with a score of 14.700, while Eldrew posted 14.300.
The Yulo brothers will be joined in men’s artistic gymnastics by Juancho Miguel Besana, Justine Ace de Leon, and Zachary Cortins Nuñez.
Olympian Levi Ruivivar will lead the women’s artistic gymnastics squad alongside Kylee Kvamme, Chiara Dawn Andrew, Lauren Supnet, and Haylee Garcia.
Breanna Labadan and Jasmine Althea Ramilo will represent the country in rhythmic gymnastics, while Jerry Ilano Jr. and Luvicar Janine Padilla will compete in trampoline gymnastics.
According to Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion, the team is scheduled to hold training camps in Japan and the Netherlands ahead of the Asian Games.
With the Yulo brothers and a strong lineup of international-level gymnasts, the national team is now targeting a historic breakthrough in Nagoya.
The gymnastics competition is scheduled for September 20 to 24 at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium, while the 2026 Asian Games will run from September 19 to October 4.
