A Philippine Hawk-Eagle was rescued in Barangay Balogo, Oas, Albay, after being reported and turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Bicol through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Guinobatan.
The bird was turned over by a concerned citizen who reported its condition to authorities.
An examination found that the Philippine Hawk-Eagle was missing one claw and had old wounds. It also sustained damage to its left wing, which caused the wing to droop.
The bird was immediately brought to the Albay Park and Wildlife Rescue Center for further examination, treatment and rehabilitation.
Wildlife Enforcement Officers and barangay personnel assisted in the rescue and handling of the bird.
The Philippine Hawk-Eagle is among the endemic bird species found in the Philippines and is listed as vulnerable.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources continues to call for public cooperation in caring for and protecting wildlife.
